Crown lifting is the removal of lower primary or secondary branches to raise the height of the canopy (upper layer of the tree). This can allow light into areas immediately under the tree, or simply be a measure to allow vehicles to pass underneath and provide clearance for buildings or pedestrians.

Again it is important not to jeapordize the health of the tree by over lifting, or removing too many mature branches. The structural integrity of the tree should be maintained and promoted, especially where large wounds may encourage disease or infection.
